About us

What is Girls Who Code?

Among the more than 1.5 million people with a degree in computer science, only 28% are women. That doesn't seem fair, does it? Enter Girls Who Code. Founded by Reshma Saujani, Girls Who Code strives to smash the notion of a homogenous, male-dominated, tech industry. Through after-school programs, summer courses, and internship programs, more than 40,000 girls have been introduced to the magical world of coding. We're not just talking drag-and-drop coding, though. Young women in the Girls Who Code program are taught to solve technology problems the way they were intended to be: through good old-fashioned code, including Python, JavaScript, and so much more. So yeah, we're kicking butt out here.

What about Girls Who Code FC?

Girls Who Code FC is a group of 30 young women taking on the world every day (or rather, every Monday from 6:30-8:30). From Foster City to Burlingame, this talented group of middle and high school students meets every week, learning about computer science from two wonderful advisors. These students don't just sit at computers, though. They're out there in the real world, too, organizing community events and hackathons, all while struggling with their regular teenage lives. We dare you, name a more determined group. It's ok, we'll take a number and wait.
